In issue 13 of the Dutch Bar Journal ('Advocatenblad') of this year Georg van Daal published an opinion, stating that an envisaged amendment of the Dutch Lawyer's Act should nót be implemented. This amendment would give the state the right to define instances in which Dutch lawyers would not be bound by their absolute duty of confidentiality. That would mean that their clients' data might end up being handed over to the authorities, whereas the essence of the client-attorney privilege is that this must never happen.
