Maarten graduated in Dutch civil law from the VU University in Amsterdam in 2002. He started his career at the Dutch Social Security Authorities (UWV), where he worked as legal advisor representing the UWV in legal proceedings with respect to national and international social security issues. Four years later Maarten joined the Employee Benefit Tax Consultancy Team of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Amsterdamwhere he focused on national and international wage tax and social security contributions. During his time at PwC he was responsible for the reorganization of Postbank and ING employees. Maarten joined VMW Taxand in July 2011 as tax lawyer.
